First of all price is going up while service and hospitality sucks. Secondly, food takes forever to come out. Cant tell who is the cook, server, or the bartender. The all stuff need extensive training including the owner. Owner or manager need to know when is the rush our so they can put more stuff. Servers are always females with smile when they want and sometimes with attitude.

It is a competitive restaurant but can't say it is the best. The price is higher than the other restaurants in the area with no additional quality. The service is the best from Silver Spring area restaurant which makes it the unique stand alone people favorite place.

I will never go back to this restaurant because of the lack of communication. I placed and order for beef tibs and got the opposite of what I asked for because they are unable to speak English so it made it very hard for us to communicate. They gave me stewed tibs then when I told them that that's not what I asked for.. They took it to the back and refried it. We did realize until we got home. This was a very awful experience and I will never go back.

There's a lot to like about Lessac... especially the fact that the food is spectacular (hence the 4 stars right off the bat). But add in some serious kinks in the service and it's easy to see why the reviews aren't raving about the overall experience. Still they deserve a chance. Let's start with the good. The place is relatively new and it's got a really nice set up. Espresso drinks and a full bar are really inviting and offer a really nice setting for a group lunch/ dinner. The menu is extensive and ranges from traditional to super creative fusion-type options, but the two times I've been here I've ordered the same things: vegetable combination, beef tibs (awaze tibs) and the Shifinfin Platter which is basically a meat-lover's dream. Picture kitfo (ground beef), firfir (injera with wet), tibs and more meaty spicy goodness layered on top of one another. I've had it many other places, but this place was one of the best. I'm Ethiopian, so I hold this to a high standard and Lessac did a damn good job. Our server was as sweet as she could be, but I think she was overwhelmed. The place was very busy over the holiday weekend, and they appeared to be short staffed. We had to wait a while to get our ordered taken, our waters refilled, and just get overall attention. She was still very kind, and it was not enough of an issue for me to not return. Definitely give this place a chance. I've been here twice and the food and unique menu choices and take on Ethiopian cuisine is done well and seems to work!

I had a terrible experience with this place and will never go back. First, to be fair, the food is just ok. I have been to other Ethiopian restaurants and this is definitely not the best. There are quite a few others in silver spring, DC and vagina that are far more better. The service of the waitress - not too bad either. We were not in a rush so we were pretty happy with the speed of getting served. Here comes the bad part. I purchased a social living coupon ($20 for $40) about months ago. Until last weekend I realized that I have it expired. However on the coupon it reads "promotional value expires on Jan 2014, paid value never expires". It's self explanatory - I am not going to use this coupon to cover $40 of my bill but only $20 of it. When I showed this coupon to the waitress she told me she needed to talk to the owner. After 20 minutes on the phone she came back and told me the owner "refused to take it". I said "let me talk to her so she can enlighten me what it means by "paid value doesn't expire". She looked embarrassed but asked me to wait for another good 10 minutes and talked to someone on the other end of the phone, then telling me "the owner refused to talk to me". Honestly I have never dealt with business owner like this. Refusing to honor the specifications she made up by herself, and then refusing to talk to the customer for any explanation?? $20 is not a big deal so we just paid for the meal and the tip and left. Afterwards I filed a complaint to Amazon Local (that's where I purchased this coupon) and actually got a refund from Amazon. I was surprised because it's not Amazon's fault and definitely not their obligation to refund me. But, my friend, that's why some business can flourish and some will be killed by competitors.

We parked between Addis Ababa and Lesaac on Saturday night and debated which way to go. We chose Lesaac based on the fact that there were lots of people there and almost all looked Ethiopian. I had a moment's pause when we got to the door and realized most were there to drink beer, not eat the food. But I am so glad we stayed! By the end of the meal all agreed the food was a cut above Addis Ababa's. The fish goulash was one of the best Ethiopian dishes I've ever had (the waitress warned us it was spicy but it was not actually that hot, and really delicious). The veggie sampler is plentiful and tasty. We ordered fish and two samplers and that was plenty of food for four people. The seating is comfortable, more an homage to Italian design and not those carved wooden chairs that look so "authentic" but are so uncomfortable. The waitress was friendly and attentive. Overall a great experience. We'll definitely be back.

New restaurant! Right now it seems to be one of the best kept secrets of Silver Spring: no yelp entry until this review, no web site, pretty much all the clientele was Ethiopian besides us. The business is looking to change that, though! I tried their sampler first at the annual "Taste the World in Fenton Village event," and it was delicious. Finally had the opportunity to go back there yesterday, and it did not disappoint. Party of four, we got the Key Wot, Special Beef Tibs (don't remember the Ethiopian name, sorry!), Shifinfin, and Kitfo. While everything was incredibly good (particularly if you like things a little spicy), the special beef tibs were a hit with everyone, served hot in a fun cast iron bowl and seasoned to perfection. The Kitfo is essentially the Ethiopian take on beef tartar: raw, high quality beef that melts in your mouth. My personal favorite, but definitely not for everyone. Raw beef might seem odd to us American folk, but if you like sushi and the rarer cuts of steak, this is definitely worth a try. Key Wot came with some salad (a little spicy!), and is beef in a nice, dripping berbere sauce. Shifinfin was a curried version of beef. All the portions were massive, and priced very reasonably at $10-14 each. We could've easily split one between two people, but we were gluttons :P One of us still ended up wrapping up about 3/4 of her meal. The injera here, the spongy Ethiopian bread served with pretty much everything, was delightful. Not too bitter like another place I've been to. Soaks up the sauce and holds everything, but you'll still get some sauce on your hands. No need to worry, though. After the meal they bring everyone some hand wipes to clean up anything that soaked through. I'll be back a third time, most definitely.

I had the worst experience at this place. I used to go often when they first opened and was fascinated by their customer service as the owner walked around and asked how you are doing. I came back a year later and found the portion of the meals shrank and the price skyrocketed more than any other Ethiopian restaurant. I went with 3 other friends of mine and were excited to have kitfo and tibs as I had bragged to be the best in town. The waitress had the biggest attitude from the start and we weren't even greeted for about 20 minutes after we arrived. She took our order and we got our food about 45 minutes later. Meanwhile we had ordered water that seemed to have something disgusting in it and we all noticed it after we had our first sip. All of us freaking out by what we just drank we told the server but she had an i don't care attitude and offered to give us clean water. We demanded to see the manager but she refused to go get her saying she can handle it. I was pretty pissed because of the fCt that I had brought my guests to a place I had raved about and was being treated horribly and my background as a bartender made it so hard for me to keep my cool. I personally got up and approached the manager who made me wait and not bothered by what's going on. Imagine our reaction while trying to figure out what we just drank. The manager then said I will be right with u and continued making coffee to customers which I thought was absurd as she can see our frustration and didn't care to assign her employees to finish making the coffee for her. She came by and asked what's going on still with I don't care look, typically managers are supposed to do everything possible to calm customers in these situations instead she took out a piece of it and said "oh this must be lemon, sometimes we leave it overnight so some pieces maybe left behind" we wondered how many days that lemon if it really is lemon has been in there because it was slimy and gray.. She took the waters away with no apology and replaced it with bottles with bottled water.. We got our food and it was half the stuff we ordered, I was very confused because the place wasn't even full. We got the check at the end with everything on it. In a typical setting managers would apologize and send the customer happy with better service and usually pay nothing to partial check but this was far from what happened.. It was the worst experience with a health hazard and they didn't care.. Seems to me like they have attracted enough customers with their previous good reputation and do not care about anything else!

Originally stopped in for a cup of tea but the food looked so good that we decided to try dinner after finished errands. Atmosphere and food were great- authentic and fresh. Service was good. Rather than have a single waitress, a number of serving staff came by for orders and with drinks and meals. Sharing is easy here. People are friendly. Parents with baby at more than 1 table to make the atmosphere even more relaxed. Can't wait til weather warms to sit out at cafe tables. Recommended.

I am an Ethiopian and I would say their vegetarian combo is fresh & yummy on Wednesdays and Fridays ( It is a secret! The reason is most Ethiopians do not eat meat on those days and everything that is non-animal product tends to be freshly cooked). The injera is not 100% teff ( gluten free super grain) and if you are gluten sensitive you should ask about it and explain that you are sensitive to gluten. I do not believe any of the Ethiopian restaurants use 100% teff injera, but I didnt ask today. Customer service is always bad ( they do ignore you) but today it was awful. I had to go to the bar to ask for additional pieces of injera. Most Ethiopian restaurants supply plenty. They didnt even apologize. Since I was planning to use an Amazonlocal voucher, I had informed them at the beginning and may be that was the reason for the awful service. In the end, there was an issue with the voucher which I should address with amazon. The manager made an incomplete explanation and get offended with the whole situation. She even told me in front of everybody that I was not the only person who used a voucher before. Such an uncultured brat! I will never go back again because of the simple fact that the manager never apologized and left while I was speaking to her. My good friend paid for it & left 30% tip. The outing was supposed to be on me. My night was ruined. I frequented this class-less place in the past. Dear manager, if you read this please have respect to your customers no matter what and dont argue with them in front of the whole restaurant! Update: I called Amazon(next day) and my Voucher of $50 to spend on f&d for $25 , even if we spend only $40 was valid. As I correctly pointed it out for the manager, there was nothing on the deal which said spend more than 50 to use this voucher. My guess is the manager was used to serving large groups who obviously spend more and the restaurant was happy about the extra money. The Amazon customer service said I was correct and I should have been allowed to use it since there is no such a statment about spending exactly 50, less (a disadvantage to me, duh!) or more as requirement. The "manager" was obviously clueless about this deal. Amazonlocal refunded my paid value and apologized, even if it was 2 months old. Customer service said they will immediately contact the merchant and thanked me for the complaint :)) I am happy with Amazon CS.

I love this place and it is my favorite Ethiopian of any I've had in the DC-area. Tonight was my fifth or sixth visit over the last year and reminded me why I need to come more often. The injera is fabulous and they will make it with teff only (authentic and gluten-free). They offer some variation over the typical selection, and everything is incredibly flavorful. The cabbage varieties are my favorite and the lamb is seasoned perfectly. The atmosphere is comfortable and modern and the seating is cozy with a little lounge flair--intimate for small group conversation. The service is very friendly. And I think they might have a full bar. I can't believe this place isn't packed. YUM.

The food was delicious. I shared the vegetarian platter with my friend from Ethiopia. We also had the beef - zilzil tibis. It was delicious! The flavors were great. The servers were friendly and helpful. I will definitely go back.

Stopped in for tea and something small to eat. Sat at the bar and had my order taken. Saw that other people were being served, but they'd gotten there first so I didn't say anything. Waited a good fifteen minutes and another group walked in and ordered some beers. They got served immediately. I was at the bar so it's not like she could have forgotten about me; I was right where she was the whole time. I asked for my tea and it took a minute or so to make. Only thing I can think of is that they wanted to serve it with my food and waited because of that, but it felt like I'd been ignored. That said, the tea was delicious, as was the appetizer I ordered. It was timatim fitfit, a salad made with injera, tomatoes, hot peppers, and Ethiopian salad dressing. Dressing wasn't greasy at all, and it was perfectly dressed. Delicious. Also, they kept checking up on me after they saw that they'd kind of ignored me, so they made up for the earlier blunder a little bit. Tl;dr: great food but don't go if you're in a rush in case they flake out.

Food was delicious and on par with what I've experienced at other Ethiopian places in Silver Spring. The decor was fun and our waters stayed filled throughout. I had two main issues with this place: #1 My husband was refused a beer because he had a "vertical ID," that is, his Arizona driver's license and his military ID are both "vertical" rather than horizontal and therefore refused by the waitress and the manager as valid ID. We were shocked and pretty perturbed to find that neither state nor federal ID is apparently acceptable unless it is landscape layout. #2 Before going to this establishment, we purchased a Livingsocial voucher for $50 worth of food. The manager came to us when it was time to pay stating that they could not find the voucher in the system and couldn't accept it. I've been other restaurants using Groupons or Livingsocial deals where they simply record the voucher number without issue. Because the deal was bought the same day it was redeemed, it probably needed some time to update. This management did not give us any flexibility, lee-way or, in my opinion, utilize common sense. We will not be returning.

Came here a few weeks ago with my husband and our daughters on a Saturday night. We were on our way to Addis Ababa but noticed this new place and decided to try it. The first thing I noticed was the decor - kind of Euro-cafe vibe, and the atmosphere - feels lively and fun. The place is small and our youngest (6 months old) was in her stroller which was a little tight in the place but they were very accommodating. We were seated quickly ordered a vegetarian platter for my husband and myself and a cheese omelet for my 4 year old. The food was all very good, tasted fresh and portions were good. i especially like the spicy lentils. I look forward to going back and trying more things.

The atmosphere is fun with groovy tiles on the wall and interesting seating arrangements. The coffee and food were excellent. But the service was offensive. We ordered the traditional Ethiopian breakfast and the waitress said "It's spicy...are you sure?" I said yes. She asked again if I was sure. I said yes - again. Then she said, "OK, you can have it." I would have left immediately but I chalked it up to language differences. When we got the check, however, the food cost $2 more than the menu and the coffee .50 more than on the menu. We pointed it out to the waitress and she said that the menu was incorrect and that we had to pay the higher amount. We had to argue until she would give us the prices that were on the menu. She claimed that the price on the menu was for a small coffee and we had ordered medium. The menu said nothing about coffee serving sizes and we did not specify a size when we ordered. The coffee that we drank was about six ounces, maybe eight. By that time, we just wanted to get out of the restaurant and we paid the .50 more per coffee. I am disappointed because I liked the atmosphere, the food, and the location. But I will never go back there.

This place has decent food, but you should set aside 1.5 - 2 hours for lunch here because service is very slow. I have been 3 times. I'm Ethiopian, but no one knows it. I can tell you that because of that I always get 2nd class service in these places. The first two times I ordered doro wat and they didn't even have it, even though it's on the menu. After 10 minutes each time someone would come back to tell me they didnt have the dish. The third time I went and took 2 friends for coffee and desserts. We sat at a table and waited for about 15 minutes before anyone would help us, only to be told that we could not sit at a table and order coffee. Then the owner told us that we could when I complained to him, so we just left and spent our dollars elsewhere. I am not going back. To top it all off, the waitress gave us a dirty look when the owner told us we could order desserts from a table. He should have really told her and not put us in the middle of it. It became so awkward with all of the customers sitting there looking that we just walked out. I will never return.
